Newlyweds Merry (Lydia Kandou) and Andi (Ray Sahetapy) have to say goodbye to Anita’s parents who are going abroad for a holiday. Aunt and Uncle (Zainal Abidin, Ida Kusumah) have been asked to watch over them. While Merry and Andi are at the airport to see the parents off, a sweet looking girl comes up and kisses Andi and gives him a message for another young woman. Confusion ensues. Merry becomes suspicious. In the midst of this atmosphere of suspicion, Andi has to take part in an office meeting in Puncak. Even worse, after the meeting, Andi’s boss invites him to a party and after that Andi has to go to Bandung on business. The Ganda family has one child named Ari who has graduated from the university and is engaged to a young woman named Mia. Karna, who has to go to Singapore for some time, leaves his daughter Ira with the Ganda family. Initially Ari see Ira as a little sister, but Mia sees her as a threat to her relationship with Ari. Mia then persuades her older brother Leo to rape Ira. The attempted rape is foiled by Ari, who begins to fall in love with Ira. Mr. Ganda, who realizes Afri’s attraction to Ira, decides to take action because he has a business relationship with Mia’s father, Brata. Mr. Ganda expels Ira from their family home and forbids Ari to continue the relationship. Ari leaves home to follow Ira, and rejects a job offer from Brata’s company. Like the film’s title, Parody of the Capital resembles a sketch of the community. Oom Pasikom, a cab driver, is stingy because of his measly income. Conversely, his wife moves within the high social circle and is a spendthrift due to her business as jewelry broker. Through Oom Pasikom’s glasses, small stories of the city are told - the ladies’ social gathering, lonely wives, the cleaning of the city and how it affects the small businesses, a student who is writing her thesis and so on.

Failing, Doyok returns alone to his village. Kadir also goes home to the village, but with Fifi. But as a city person from a rich family, she is not used to the village life. Kadir keeps working for her, such as selling frogs, which is a mistake as the frogs he sells are not edible. The inedible frog becomes a big joke. Finally, Kadir and Fifi return to the city just when Fifi is going to be engaged to Tomo (Rudy Salam), her parents’ intended. But Fifi is already in love with Kadir. Kadir leaves because he does not want to be insulted, but Fifi goes after him and runs away from home.

Ferdian and Benny both have a crush on Amalia, whom they met at a discotheque. Through unique and funny competition, Ferdian finally manages to get Amalia, who also likes Ferdian, who is handsome, but a playboy. Yanti, has to deal with major changes when her parents divorce. So Yanti goes to her old friend, Irma, and becomes a bartender of a brothel in Tandes. One day, her stepfather comes to the brothel and sees Yanti. Yanti avoids him by leaving with one of the guests from the bar. Then Frans comes to take her out of the place. But Bambang confronts Frans so Yanti takes a knife and stabs Bambang. Yanti goes to jail but she gets married inside the prison.

Rachmat has also come back for Mira.

Icang bin Japrit (Benyamin S)—nicknamed "Si Pincang" (The Lame One) because one of his legs was longer than the other—was a wealthy man in the fishing village. Sabeni (Bung Salim) resolved the issue with his leg by crafting a special shoe. Thanks to this shoe, Icang regained his self-confidence and resolved to propose to Roro Melati (Rima Melati), the daughter of Wiro Senjoyo (Suroto). However, the proposal formalities devolved into a seemingly endless verbal clash, all stemming from a dispute over a "stubborn" fishpond that both parties claimed as their own.

Beni, who has been dating Ida for a long time, is now interested in Ratmi, who becomes a queen of a competition by bribing the judges. The director of the biscuits factory where Ratmi works, uses her image as an advertisement for the biscuits. When Ratmi’s pet goat disturbs her neighbour, Ida’s widowed sister, Beni sells the goat and he uses sale’s commission to date Ida. Other comedic incidents are strung together in this generic comedy.

Singer Anna Maria Larasati is a widow with one child but after returning from a visit abroad, she regains her popularity back home. One of her fans, Johan, is the son-in-law of a rich man, who is not happy with his marriage and now tries to pursue Anna Maria. But she rejects him and he gets into an accident and is killed. Then Budiman, comforts her and also helps her take care of her son, Boy. Budiman has been attracted to Anna for a long time but when their love starts to bloom, Anna’s chronic disease strikes back. On her deathbed, she asks Budiman to look after Boy.

A little boy is told the tale about the development of Jakarta, when a village was divided into two, and causing the people to oppose each other. On one side, there is Anton while the other side is lead by Mahmud. Maulana, the village boy whom Anton has adopted, falls in love with Laila, the sister of Mahmud. This love affair irritates Majid, Mahmud’s right-hand man, because he has loves Laila, long before her meeting with Maulana. Maulana and Laila refuse to take sides between the two opposing sides, and try to reconcile them. But a battle is inevitable. In the end, Mahmud kills Anton; but Mahmud dies at the hand of Maulana, his future brother-in-law. Then Maulana runs to Laila’s house and confesses. Laila forgives him, but Majid cannot. He orders a boy to steal the gun of Sabeni, an informant, and he shoots Maulana with it. While the intention was to make this film a musical, it didn’t work as the “realistic world” and the “musical world” could not blend fully.

When army intelligence detects an underground movement, Operation X is carried out. Lieutenant Hadi receives a secret mission to penetrate into the underground movement. In order to keep it secret, Hadi breaks up with his girlfriend, Savitri, for the time being. Spies kidnap Savitri as their hostage when Hadi’s dual role is suspected. On the trail to catch the killer of his brother, Achmad easily defeats a bandit who challenges him. This impresses Citra, a child, who since then follows Achmad wherever he goes. When they come to a village threatened by robbers, Achmad stops and tries to solve the problem. One of the tough guys of the village, Wirya, notices Achmad and is impressed by him and Achmad’s religious devotion. He becomes friends with Achmad and asks him to agree to his condition not to bother Aisah, a village girl, who is actually in love with Achmad. Then the robbers launch a major attack, which Achmad repels. From the defeated chief, Achmad finds out that Wirya is the killer of his brother. Wirya admits killing Achmad’s brother, for committing crime and adultery.

Arman suffers a severe wound from the second military clash in December 1948 and is nursed by the village head and his daughter, Srihati. When Indonesia gains full sovereignty in 1950, he returns to Jakarta. Then Arman is carried away by the big city life. He meets Martini and later on marries the modern girl. When Srihati goes to the city to find him, she is disappointed. But later she meets Kasim. At that time, Arman is having gambling problems and he is sent to prison due to embezzlement. After he finishes his prison sentence, he tries to find Srihati at the village but she is already married to Kasim. So Arman becomes the dust of revolution, blown by the wind to nothingness.
