ISMO – Breaking Bad English is a cinematic version of the saying “through hardships to the stars.” Ismo, who grew up in Jyväskylä, is a shy boy with a vivid imagination who has trouble fitting in. As a student in his twenties, he stumbles upon a new form of expression in Finland, stand-up comedy, which suits him perfectly. Ismo quickly rises to become one of Finland’s most successful stand-up comedians, but that’s not enough for him. He decides to pursue a career in the United States, the homeland of the world’s most famous comedians.

Despite his family’s objections, The Father decides to make his dream of spending his retirement in Spain a reality. But how will Finland’s most famous family fare under the Spanish sun, amid cockroaches, their first steps in salsa dancing, and beach chairs? And will The Father strike the deal of a lifetime with his real estate investments—or will he lose everything?

When Pirjo Heikkilä embarrasses herself in public at a charity event, she begins to believe that she needs a change of scenery. Pirjo learns a surprising secret about her family that leads her to Sweden. Pirjo sets off on her journey convinced that her true life awaits her in Stockholm—surrounded by royalty, new friends, and greater human dignity. But the trip turns out to be anything but dignified. She faces one awkward situation after another and an endless need to appear more Swedish than she really is.
