Henrik and Emilie Schultze rent the Hotel Paradis in a small, poor fishing village by the coast.

Birdwatcher Professor Petersen goes on a summer trip to a remote rocky island. The uninhabited island is home to birds, disturbing scantily clad young girls and a gang of bootleggers. Pat Patachon reluctantly toil for the smugglers, who take Professor Petersen prisoner. The two friends are assigned to guard the suspected spy Petersen, but soon escape together with their new pal. While caught up in the rush of new love, he receives a letter from a loan shark to whom he owes money, demanding that he pay the debt immediately. Although his feelings for Ebba are genuine, he is now forced to plan a proposal in order to pledge Ebba’s dowry.
