A young Roma girl named Fati finds out about her grandmother’s illness—anemia due to iron-deficiency. Disappointed because of her lack of money to buy the necessary medicine, she sees a notice in a discarded newspaper: ‘Ecological Action: wagons for old iron arrive in train station for recycling’. She comes up with a creative plan and goes to see Andrej, the local mafia boss who often visits Grandmother Fatima for fortunetelling. The superstitious boss orders his bodyguards to rob the train and deliver the iron to the old lady. Amazed by the ironic story, the police officers release Perhan and help to obtain the necessary medication for Fatima.

Through authentic archival footage, photographs of personalities, displays of monuments, as well as interviews with historians, ethnologists and anthropologists, the turbulent and dramatic history of the Roma, over a period of 13 centuries, is treated. How much do we know about their language, their culture, their tradition and religion? Special attention is paid to the topics of the migration of the Roma from India throughout the world and their persecution from the places where they settled.

Adela can’t accept this destiny for her older sister and takes matters into her own hands. After a few unsuccessful attempts to find a job, she decides to join a skateboarding contest even though, in her culture, skateboarding is frowned upon for girls. The only way she can learn how to skate and have a chance to win the contest is if she befriends the gang of skater girls from her school. Adela starts navigating between the two different cultures, where she finds herself caught between two very different models of femininity.

A promising debut feature tells the story of a young woman returning from America to discover the realities of life in Macedonia, that looks as if it will explode with all the soldiers, corrupt crooks and terrorist idealists.
