So Lukas asks his neighbor Natalie, who is five months pregnant, to visit his mother in the hospital and tell her that she is going to have his baby. His mother is finally happy - Lukas fulfilled her greatest wish. Soon after, they receive some very happy news - a new heart donor has been found. After the operation, Lukas and Natalie must keep up the act to avoid upsetting his recovering mother. As they play the devoted couple, the web of lies expands, ensnaring family friends and Lukas's colleagues. The deception starts to turn Lukas's life upside down.

We meet Veronica shortly before her high-school graduation exams. She lives with her mother, an alcoholic, and her mother's partner. One day when he is drunk, he chases Veronica to the roof of a house and falls off, killing himself. He was in debt as he was addicted to gambling. His creditor wants the money back and starts to threaten Veronica. Her mother will not protect her since she is always drunk. Thus, the young girl must leave home and hide far away. On her journey she meets many characters. Some of them are comic, others are rather tragicomic. The Czech film Svítalo All Night was made to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the liberation of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Army and is dedicated to all those who fought and gave their lives in Prague in the May Uprising of 1945. Behind the historical events, the creators see mainly their simple, unassuming participants. Thus, we are presented with a number of apt portraits, whether it is the central hero Dr. Soukup and nurse Daniela on the side of the fighting Czechs, or a captain and a simple private in a Red Army unit coming to the aid of the fighting Prague, or an old, war-weary German major, who only realises the senselessness of the war at the sight of a fanatical, cynical lieutenant for whom Nazi ideology represents the meaning of life.

Produced by Czech television, Mestecko (Small Town) is the directorial debut of theatrical veteran Jan Kraus. This episodic comedy is set in the small town of Mestecko (which literally translates to "small town") right before the Velvet Revolution of 1989. Tonda (Vlastimil Brabec) leads an ensemble cast of townsfolk who are eager to experience capitalism, but are unaware of how it's supposed to work. They set out to pull get-rich-quick schemes and end up creating their own version of free enterprise. For instance, a group of men run for office as a political party called the"Independent Eroticists" so they can hire a stripper to perform for the town. Individual business owners plot various schemes in order to participate in the new economy as the town heads into the '90s

It's the same school as his son visiting. The lives both students are connecting together. The son must teach the math and physics his own father. The father getting to know, that the life of the students is not simple as he supposed.

Have you heard of this guy who broke the laws of gravity and shot mosquitoes with an intelligent laser? Even though I was in touch with him, he never wanted to show himself. I decided to find him.

A 16-year-old young man, a budding rock enthusiast, spots a beautiful guitar but soon finds he doesn't have enough money. In vain, he asks his parents to help him. Eventually he tries to raise the necessary funds on his own. This is a not very believable normalisation morality tale, which was supposed to guide teenagers towards desirable patterns of behaviour.

1950. While some people enthusiastically build a totalitarian state, others flee from it in terror. And some disappear. Just like Jarmila, the sister of doctor Marie, disappeared. Although a letter arrived from her in West Germany, it was addressed to Maruška, a name Jarmila never called her sister. At first, there is only an almost impossible-to-prove suspicion, then the intuition of a loving sister, and so Marie sets out to follow in her footsteps.

In the final days of the Second World War in 1945 Frantisek Pribyl is killed during a shoot-out with the Germans. After the funeral, the widow (Jana Svandová) and her two young sons Martin and Ondra move to her deceased husband's native village at the foot of the Kralický Snezník mountains. Life in the borderlands is far from easy for the lonely woman. The village is almost deserted, food supplies are delayed; the Werwolf (Nazi guerrilla squads) are hiding in the mountains, and shooting is heard from time to time. The elder son Ondra (Michal Dlouhý) is helping out his mother and at the same time absorbing intense new experiences. He meets an old Czech resident Skurek (Lubomír Kostelka), German women working in the forest, soldiers from the engineering units removing the mines, and a young first lieutenant. At night he dreams about his dead father whom he loved very much. This is why he runs away from home when he finds out that the lieutenant is courting his mother.

Twenty-year-old Karel is expelled from Bata's school of work and has no choice but to make his way in his uncle Kubát's publishing business at any cost. A very drastic adaptation of the draft has fundamentally changed the whole story, which is also set in a completely different historical context. The result was a schematic and tepidly propagandistic poster.

After five years of hard work in America Juraj Hordubal (Anatoliy Kuznetsov) returns back home. He is looking forward to his wife Polana (Libuse Geprtová) and his little daughter Hafie. The family and the village welcome him with hesitation. Everybody believed that Juraj died in America because Polana stopped receiving money from him already two years ago. Polana's farm was prospering first of all thanks to the young stable boy Stepán (Sándor Oszter). Men in the pub first indicate and then say to Juraj directly that Polana has been unfaithful to him with Stepán.

The film reflects on how to live life to the fullest and why the journey of life is not always smooth sailing, but rather accompanied by setbacks, uncertainty, obstacles, and failures, and why it is often painful and difficult. Zborník, Hanka, and Eda, this strange trio, seemingly disparate in age and character, experience a series of vicissitudes and crises over the course of a few days, both comical and quite dramatic, in order to come to the realization, each in their own way, that life is not a walk in the park, nor a well-trodden dry path, but that every act of recklessness, stupidity, irresponsibility, or betrayal must be paid for dearly. An intimate story about a steamroller, but more about a trio of strange people who, thanks to this machine, experience several extraordinary days together.

The hero of the story is a forty-something intellectual, a sensitive composer of classical music. His exclusive profession, his work, which is actually incomprehensible to those around him, and his deep inner passion set him apart from the conformist milieu. Therefore, he tries to search for the "lark's silence" - a new strength, purity, truth, essence and roots of Czechism. However, on his return from the oppressive, alienated big city to his native village, to his former home, to nature, a deep disillusionment awaits him: he discovers that the once idyllic village has lost not only its face, but also any manifestation of spiritual life in its foolish attempt to resemble the city.

This controversial feature blends documentary, archival footage and fiction into an elliptical narrative in which two young people in Prague, an ancient seat for the practice of alchemy, follow the trail for the mystical philosopher's stone. History and future blend as brilliant montage sequences and fanciful leaps of the imagination work to posit questions about the legacy of the past and how it influences the individual's personal freedom and responsibility.

Jan Kačer became known primarily as an actor, but he also took up film directing several times - not very successfully. Based on someone else's script, he made a committed, building story: it tells the story of an experienced engineer who is commissioned to assemble a team of specialists for engineering the peaceful use of atomic energy. However, the explanation of human dilemmas is too flat and proclamatory, as is the image of Ostrava's industrial environment; the heroes are thinking about one thing: the proper completion of the assigned task...
