Spyros Kalogirou

A professor asks two poor students of law to steal, for a fee, a rare figurine from the house of a collector. After the successful outcome of the theft, the professor dies from joy, and the two students decide to return the figurine to its owner. There they meet his daughters, to whom they tell numerous lies. In the end, it is revealed that the whole thing was part of a wager between the professor and the collector, and the two students fall in love with the latter's daughters.

Returning from a business trip to Rhodes, Markos finds out that his sick son has been kidnapped. He agrees to pay the ransom that the kidnappers demand but the police officer Makridis sees that the money used is marked so they can track them down.

Two friends (Thanasis Vengos and Vasilis Diamantopoulos) meet after many years and recollect the tragi-comic events they went through during the German occupation.

A dark atmosphere pervades this film in true noir fashion. So does the feeling that our principals are trapped. They fight their way against economic forces and their status in life, and love might conquer all.

The abysmal hatred which exists between two landowners is transferred to their natural environment as well. Whatever crosses the river separating the two families, be it man or beast, dies. The film is yet another rendering of the Romeo and Juliet tale, with intense emotions, dominated by the extreme behavior of the heroes. The plain of Thessaly, 1910. The tenant farmers suffer untold hardships, both from the Arvanites invaders who ravage and seize their possessions and from the chief landlord of the area Stratos Karatzas, who claims the lion’s share of their harvest. The dynamic daughter of one of the tenant farmers, Maya, who is about to get married to a young farmer, Lefteris, leads their struggle for better conditions and confronts Karatzas – as well as his niece Vgenio, who also wants Lefteris. The latter plots and succeeds to separate them. Lefteris leaves for the army and Karatzas persuades Maya to marry him. Lefteris is captured during an ambush set by the Turks, but in the end he is set free and returns to Maya’s arms forever.

Stathis, a naughty young man whose father owns a coffee shop at the island’s central square, picks up attractive tourists. His neighbor Rena, who is in love with him, stands in the middle of his love affairs and does her best to win him. Moreover, his sister Kaiti, a cute and tender girl, falls in love with an young guy who met while traveling, and who stays on the island for her sake. After many humorous events, both couples find happiness.

At first there was the theatrical adaptation, by Manolis Skouloudis, of the legendary Dreyfus Affair (an adaptation based on the novel by Emile Zola). It was then transferred to the cinema. The subject: the early 20th century and the military establishment, with the help of a money-loving and womanizing junior officer (Alekos Alexandrakis), accuses Captain Alfred Dreyfus (Dimitris Myrat) of treason, because he allegedly handed over secrets to the Germans. After a mock trial, where expediency prevailed, Dreyfus was convicted and imprisoned. However, Emile Zola firmly believes in his innocence and, through the press, fights a brave and effective battle, which will lead to the uncovering of the conspiracy and the restoration of the honor of the unjustly slandered captain.
