This film is a Spanish-language version of the 1930 film The Benson Murder Case (See Entry), which was directed by Frank Tuttle and starred William Powell and Natalie Moorhead. The Spanish version had two working titles: Juego, amor y sangre and El crimen de Wall Street.

The role of Lolita was cast for the English version with Dorothy Sebastian. Contrabando's plot was inspired by an actual 1929 rebellion led by José Gonzalo Escobar.
