After World War I, a war hero returns to Berlin to find that there's no place for him--he has no skills other than what he learned in the army, and can only find menial, low-paying jobs. He decides to become a gigolo to lonely rich women.

An all-knowing interlocutor guides us through a series of affairs in Vienna, 1900. A soldier meets an eager young lady of the evening. Later he has an affair with a young lady, who becomes a maid and does similarly with the young man of the house. The young man seduces a married woman. On and on, spinning on the gay carousel of life.

After a frank confession by his wife, a doctor is called to see a dying patient. The cause of the night brings him to meet an old friend, a pianist, who tells him of a mysterious ball where he is due to perform. Based on the book "Traumnovelle" ("Rhapsody: A Dream Novel") by Arthur Schnitzler, which was the inspiration for the film Eyes Wide Shut (1999).

Erika Pluhar is an acclaimed Austrian stage and screen actress, singer, director, screenwriter and author. She studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminar, the Viennese academy for music and the performing arts where she graduated from.

The young Armand Duval falls in love with the attractive noble courtesan Marguerite Gautier, and she also develops increasingly strong feelings for him. However, Armand's father disapproves of his son's relationship with Marguerite and, behind Armand's back, ensures that she breaks up with him. Armand is bitterly disappointed by her supposed betrayal of love. What he does not yet know is that Marguerite is terminally ill and does not have long to live...
