From that moment, questions begin to multiply, and the tragedy turns into a complicated mystery. Maciej comes to the conclusion that perhaps he did not know the woman he married at all.

Katowice, the night of December 12-13, 1981. Military units occupy strategic points in the city. A group of Zomovniks, smashing union security, drags the chairman of the Company Commission of the NSZZ Solidarity in the Wujek mine out of his apartment. The news quickly spreads to the miners. Initially surprised, they soon react with spontaneous protest. On December 14, a strike breaks out at the plant. The miners demand the lifting of martial law and the release of the chairman. When negotiations fail, the army, ZOMO and militia storm the mine.

Ewa works as a translator. She gives private english lessons and lives alone, but has a strong bond with her parents and sister Joanna. One day she got a package from her former boyfriend Eryk who writes her that he’s starting a journey. Reading his notes Ewa starts to think that description of his journey is chronicle of Eric’s sickness and depression and all of his story is fiction.

Ursula is preparing an Easter breakfast in honor of her daughter and her new fiancé. When her daughter arrives, it turns out that her fiancé is thirty years older than her. Breakfast turns into dinner, and Ursula experiences the worst day of her life.
