Born and raised in a Punjabi family in Mumbai, she completed her education at St. Anthony's High School and earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mumbai University. She pursued modeling and trained in Bharatanatyam and Salsa before making her acting debut in the Hindi film *Sanam Harjai* (1995). She gained early attention through her appearance in the ABCL production *Tere Mere Sapne* (1996), particularly for the hit song "Aankh Maarey". In 1997, Simran shifted her focus to South Indian cinema, making highly successful Tamil debuts with *Once More*, *V.I.P.*, and *Nerrukku Ner*. These performances earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. She quickly ascended to become one of Tamil cinema's most dominant and sought-after leading ladies during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Following her marriage to Deepak Bagga in 2003, Simran took a sabbatical, later making a powerful comeback playing a mother and wife in Gautham Vasudev Menon's *Vaaranam Aayiram* (2008), which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Over the next decade, she balanced character roles with prominent television work.
