Fagner

The life and work of poet Antonio Gonçalves da Silva, better known as Patativa do Assaré, one of the most recognized and celebrated popular poets of national poetics. A look at the political side of his acts, the writing process of his poems and their importance for Brazilian culture, narrated through testimonials given, at various times, by their family, friends and admirers.

In the late 1970s, young filmmaker Sérgio Santos from Rio de Janeiro lived in Santa Teresa and was a neighbor and friend of singer Raimundo Fagner from Ceará, who was beginning to reap the first fruits of a solid and long career that he would build over the following decades. Sérgio then decided to make a short film to record moments of the rising star.

"10 Anos" is the fifth DVD of the Brazilian musical group Banda Calypso, in celebration of the ten years of the band's career. It was recorded on November 6, 2009, at Chevrolet Hall in Recife / PE, being released on March 14, 2010 by Som Livre. It featured the special appearances of Fagner, Bruno & Marrone, Maestro Spok and the gospel band Voz da Verdade. It was released on DVD, with all 27 tracks, and two CDs sold separately.

ABC of a Strike captures the 1979 metal workers strikes outside of São Paulo. The footage sat untouched until after the death of highly-regarded director Leon Hirszman in 1987, by which time the material had a new relevance. The gripping film captures the negotiations between the labor unions and the factory bosses and shows the birth of the region’s Worker’s Party, as well as the emergence of its charismatic leader, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Rising from extreme poverty, Lula gained national prominence as a union activist during the late 70s and early 80s. After being jailed during his time as a union leader, he eventually becomes Brazil’s president from 2003 to 2010.

Documentary about the strikes that took place in São Bernardo do Campo, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, circa 1979/1980. That moment was of utmost importance, since it revealed a Union leader, Luís Inácio "Lula" da Silva, who would later become President of Brazil. It was also the moment when PT, the Workers' Party, became a relevant political force in Brazil.

“Naked Eye” is a film-documentary of long-length of the artistic and existential universe of the singer Ney Matogrosso, which proposes to recreate through archive’s images in counterpoint with the current production of the artist, thirty-five years of career marked for inventive and transgressing spectacles, always symphonize with its time. Through a coherent boarding with its intransigent trajectory, the film intends to translate the language musical-corporal of Ney Matogrosso, trying audiovisuals resources that express signs evoked poetical politicians and in the repertoire of the singer. A film-song that that looks for to, ultimately, embody the voices of an artist who searches for a nation.

A host of personalities reminisce about the life and work of songwriter, lawyer, and congressman Humberto Teixeira — aka "Baião Doctor" — the author of such classic Brazilian popular songs as "Asa Branca". A musical film about the baião, a movement in Brazilian music in the 1940s and 1950s that was later snowed under by samba and bossa nova.

A period piece set in the 1920s and 1930s. It tells the story of Santa Dica, leader of the messianic movement in Goiás, a peasant girl of rare beauty who comes back to life after mysteriously appearing dead at the age of 13. The film covers the Prestes Column, the Revolution of 1930 in Goiás, and the Revolution of 1932 in São Paulo, episodes in which Santa Dica participated. The film maintains the original locations and features approximately 3,700 extras in its ensemble.

The intense life of Ferreira Gullar, one of the most influential poets in Brazil, is revisited by his personal friend Silvio Tendler, based on his most acclaimed work: Poema Sujo. In addition to addressing other poems by Gullar, the documentary also includes the testimony of people who lived directly with the artist's work.
