Ryûtarô Nakane

Shinzaemon has been Sukeroku’s enemy ever since Sukeroku fought and defeated gangs from Shinzaemon’s group at a Kabuki theatre over Agemaki from Miuraya. Sukeroku swears that he will never draw his sword until he finds his family’s treasured blade, Tomokirimaru, so he gets insulted often by Shinzaemon’s men. Bunzaemon redeems Agemaki for Sukeroku ahead of Shinzaemon, but Sukeroku, ever the gentleman, does not accept. When Shinzaemon snatches Agemaki, it is found that he has Tomokirimaru.

In 1930s Japan, a beer seller and a struggling music student fall in love while chasing their dreams.

Featuring the beloved comic duo Yaji (Nakae Ryutaro) and Kita (Makino Toroku), the film follows this odd couple along the Kiso Road where they meet and rescue a couple who are running away from their family after their 50 ryo of travel money has been stolen. Featuring appearances from popular jidaigeki heroes Tange Sazen and Kunisada Chuji.

In medieval Japan, a brutal and corrupt magistrate is planning to kill the child who is about to become the heir to the estate and position of the local lord and substitute his own "heir", an orphan, in order to get control of the late lord's estate and rule as the impostor's "regent". However, a mysterious stranger appears and sets out to thwart the magistrate's plans and free the people from his oppressive rule.

Kageboshi, based on the screenplay by Rokuhei Rokuhei Susukita, depicts the life of the ‘jovial thief’, Kageboshi.
