After the untimely death of her father and step-mother, Sonia is orphaned and lives with her aunt and paternal uncle (Mrs. and General Rajpal Singh). Sonia is plain-looking as her real mother, and often invites unappreciative, taunts, and critical remarks from her aunt and cousin-sister, Sheela. Sheela has a boyfriend, Dev Kumar Mehra, and she plans to marry him. Fed-up of hearing frequent taunts and adverse remarks about her plain-looks, Sonia challenges Sheetal that she will make Dev fall in love with her.

A family of four is separated after the ship they're traveling on capsizes. The two brothers, Ajay and Vijay, grow up apart - only to reunite years later under much different circumstances.

Rajat is happily married to Mukta until Sheetal, an upcoming model, destroys their relationship to achieve success. Rajat then launches his housemaid, Tulsi, as his advertising agency's new model.

After businessman Ram Pratap Singh (Raj Babbar) gives police information pertaining to a journalist's murder, gangster Jagmohan (Danny Denzongpa) goes to prison for the crime. They get the money, but Ghanshyamdas is killed the next day. The police are on their tracks, and so is the mysterious "Black Cobra", who is real, and not a figment of imagination.
