Third and final film in the 'Inspector Hornleigh’ series of comedy-thrillers. Inspector Hornleigh (Gordon Harker), disappointed at not being handed an important spy case, is assigned by Scotland Yard to an army barracks to investigate the mundane thefts of supplies from the stores. As a romantic bond grows between Ivan and Ann, a cultural bond begins to grow as well, particularly as the war begins and Russia is attacked by Germany.

Soon the untidy pile of out of date brochures are replaced by a bespoke Ford display cabinet, prospects are safely organised in a card index system and there are"fine photographs of Dagenham" on the walls. This is a fascinating insight into branding and sales, 1930s style.
