A romantic drama about a relationship between people of different social classes. The young baron, who is in love with a record shop saleswoman, is sent by his family on a diplomatic mission to Budapest, where he loses his heart to a beautiful noblewoman. His remorseful, hasty return to Vienna brings tragedy.

Christel, the beautiful, blonde daughter of the old master blacksmith Wangen, and the young, handsome student Fritz von Hohenstein have fallen in love. The two spend a happy, carefree time on the banks of the Rhine. This does not fit in at all with the concept of the court clerk Ensser, as the devious officer himself has his eye on the attractive blonde. When he asks for her hand in marriage, Christel immediately rejects him.

The film takes place on two time levels: first in contemporary France and then in the time of Louis XV. in the 18th century. Lucienne is a young, dynamic woman who, although she loves the chief engineer of her uncle Abel Fernay’s car factory, is forced to marry an unloved man, a noble businessman.

INCOMPLETE | Anna, the beautiful daughter of a general, and the young lieutenant Cernieff are in love. However, the general refuses to give his only daughter to a man without fortune. Heartbroken, Anna confides in the duchess, who agrees to deliver a letter to Cernieff. The duke sees this, and when he intercepts the unsigned love declaration, he mistakenly believes that his wife is having an affair with the young lieutenant. Cernieff is thrown into a dungeon and sentenced to death. The beginning of the film is missing. The first scene of the preserved fragment is the one in which Anna confides in the duchess. In this early version the classic "Hound of the Baskervilles" mystery is not faithfully adapted, Watson's character is absent and there are two Holmes. Holmes' foe is called Stapleton and he menaces Holmes' client Lord Henry and his fiancée, Laura Lyons, masquerading himself as Holmes. Hidden passages, hand bombs and mechanical devices abound, reminding more of a serial than of a Conan Doyle story.

Under the assumed name of Stapleton, Roger of Baskerville is condemned to death for being instrumental in the death of a relative and probable heir to the Baskerville estates. After his plea of clemency is denied, he overpowers his keeper and escapes, taking up his residence near Baskerville Castle, and announcing himself to Lord and Lady Baskerville as Loris Collamore, a new neighbor.

Lord Henry's tyrannical ancestor is seen to murder his wife and her faithful dog. The dog later returns to haunt his erstwhile master, involving Sherlock Holmes in the process.
