Fritz Holl owns a plantation in Cameroon. He works hard and, with the help of his wife, Helene, also cares for his sister Anna, who became blind after an accident. Fritz is very concerned about Helene, for his once vivacious wife has become depressed. For a while now, Herbert, Fritz’s younger brother, has been living on the farm. Herbert is no big help to Fritz because he's reclusive and an alcoholic. Herbert Miller, the farm's administrator, is overheard in a bar telling someone that he recently split up with his girlfriend Marianne back in Hamburg. In Hamburg, Marianne Carsten has gotten engaged to Kurt von Kollinghausen. She soon realizes, however, that the arrogant Kurt isn't the man for her and she now wants Herbert back. Her father understands and wants to send her off to Cameroon. While Marianne flies to Cameroon, Herbert takes the ship back to Hamburg because he's going to sell his brother's cocoa crop in Germany.

This 1938 film by Mario Camerini is the German version of a previously-made film by the same director. However, unlike the previous film, this one isn't quite as serious. A libertine gets married, but is free to carry out his adventures in this marriage of convenience. Eventually, however, he will discover that the marriage is more than something convenient and will lead, surprisingly, to something he never expected.

Fritz Schmitz advertises the sea journeys of Mr. Hein Kluge using this melody. Fritz is Mr. Winkler's nephew and aside from attracting participants in these sea journeys, he's trying to get his uncle to invest 10,000 Reichsmark in Mr. Kluge's operation. And wouldn't you know it: without having met her except by mail, he's fallen for her! Another big condition is that Fritz not sell Mrs. Muller a ticket for this trip. On the steps, Fritz gets to know a young girl, with whom he falls in love at first sight and, without knowing her name, invites her to join the tour. And wouldn't you know it: this woman is Frau Muller's daughter. Can you guess where this is going?

In the depression era unemployed Susanne tries to break into movies by working as an extra. She is ‚hired' to be kidnapped in a PR stunt that is supposed to hush over a suicide scandal. This soon gets her a real role in an artistic film.
