Govardhan, a doctor by profession, is wrongly accused of bombing a train and is jailed by the British in Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He witnesses sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners there.

K Bhagyaraj plays the role of a commando captain who visits his hometown after many years of his elope in childhood. He keeps his identity secret to all villagers. He witnesses his sister, father and lover anxiously anticipating for him for years. His love interest Pavunnu(Rohini) ignores him and blasts him as and when she encounters him. K.Bhagyaraj too playfully bullies her and teases her. But who is Bhagyaraj really? Will he marry Pavunnu forms rest of the story.

This is an intersting movie as it is very different to the movies that were realeased in the 70s.Most of the movie is shot outdoors and it is more in touch with reality rather than the usual dramatic type. Prem Nazir's performance is something very diffrernt to his usual polished self. He acts as a rough police officer which is a welcome change.

Raja lives with his elder brother, sister-in-law, and their little daughter. Rajabecomes a coolie and transports articles. He is jailed for smuggling. His brother gets into an accident at work at the mill and loses his arms. He loses his job and needs money for treatment. Raja begs his brother's boss , but he refuses. Raja breaks into the boss' safe to get the money but it is too late as the brother dies. The boss throws Raja in jail. How he escapes and gets his revenge on the boss forms the climax of the movie
