Four ex-convicts come together to produce a film, repeating their crimes of theft to raise funds.

Viswanath (Rajnikanth), a famous lawyer, stays with his widowed mother (Vijayakumari) and physically handicapped sister (Uma). He sends Jegan, a rich magnate's son (Sathyaraj) and Lokaiya, two criminals to jail on the charge of rape and murder of an innocent girl. Jagan’s father, GMK (M N Nambiar) uses his influence and starts creating trouble in Viswanath’s life. GMK succeeds in getting Viswanath imprisoned on a trumped up charge. His heartbroken mother dies. Once out of jail, Viswanath sets out to punish the culprits when he temporarily loses his eyesight.

After an officer is shot dead, a CID officer, Shankar, is tasked with investigating to find his colleague's killers. He soon starts unravelling the mystery behind his colleague's death.

Mohan's father wants him to marry Menaka but Mohan likes Kalyani. His father gives in to his demands but Menaka has other plans.

Ashokan finds all truth and he goes to Nagamalai estate, where he gives lift to a young girl who explodes her belt.Ashokan gives diary and locker key to Vithya(Sakunthala) who saves his life and admits him in the hospital. But unfortuneately ashokan was killed by the mysterious gang in hospital. Vithya gives the things to Shankar and both fall in love. Raju falls in love with actress Rama(Kumari Radha), who also stays in the same hotel. Shankar meet Reeta and asks her to help him. She gives information to his assistant Raju and later on she is killed by the same mysterious gang.

Sivashankar attempts suicide after discovering his wife, Ganga is having an affair. However, he is rescued by Gayathri, and they begin a new life. Years later, Ganga re-enters his life.
