In the 22nd Century, antiquities command huge prices. A woman uses a time machine to travel back the the 19th Century in order to buy paintings from Vincent Van Gogh before he was famous. Will she be wealthy upon her return?

A story spanning three generations, from 1871 to 1945. When Gustav Wengler, a farmer’s son, returns from the Franco-German war in 1871, he goes to work for a precision mechanics and optical company, where he soon becomes a master craftsman. Wengler loyally promises the owner on his deathbed that his sons and grandsons will also stand by the company.

Shortly after the seizure of power by Adolf Hitler at the beginning of 1933, preparations were underway to silence the members of the socialist and communist parties.

In 1955, Michael Vierkant, a Jew who had emigrated during the Nazi era, returns from abroad to the Federal Republic of Germany to obtain the conviction of Korn, the former informer responsible for the murder of his sister. Korn is back in office; Michael's efforts remain unsuccessful. There is a direct confrontation between the two, and Michael shoots Korn in self-defense. He flees and is hidden by the young, reclusive artist Marie Jäger, but is then caught by the police and charged with premeditated murder. The case is taken out of the hands of the criminal investigation department by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which constructs an act of political revenge on behalf of the communists. Michael manages to escape from prison. Marie and her friends organize a press conference at which Michael reveals the connections. The trial is postponed.

In the late 1950s, the collectivization of agriculture is in full swing in the East German village of Willshagen on the German-German border. Those in charge have to face many obstacles, especially from a large-scale farmer who is unwilling to join the co-op. All of a sudden, mysterious men in a fancy car appear in the village and show an interest in the rundown manor house. Gossip spreads quickly, and some villagers think there will be a re-parceling of properties and a land swap with West Germany. They assume everything will go back to how it used to be and even expect the count to return to his manor. In preparation, the situation in the village escalates at a fevered pitch.

1944 - Soviet prisoners of war work under inhumane conditions on the Tharau estate in East Prussia. After a hunting trip, an illustrious circle of friends of the house and SS officers meet there. Anne, a non-political rendant who works at the manor, finds herself in a conflict situation, as her humane thoughts and actions are met with a wall of incomprehension. She tries to help ease the lot of the people suffering there. Threatening clashes ensue, which are exacerbated by the approaching front...

On the Faroe Islands, people eke out a meagre existence by catching birds. Merchant Brause pays them little and does a good business. This comes under threat when Dr. Sten Horn suspects that the dangerous annual plague, which kills dozens of inhabitants, is transmitted by birds. Brause forces the people to work anyway and conceals the telegram from the Copenhagen research institute that confirms Horn's suspicions. Horn, supported by his cousin Arne, enlightens the islanders and the greedy Brause can only flee.

For her husband, who has become famous as an actor, Angelika is the go-to girl. For years, she stands in his shadow. The only things they do together are premiere parties and receptions. Angelika, who is becoming increasingly frustrated, finally wants a satisfying occupation with which she can gain recognition. But this is where the problems really begin for the couple.

Story of two young people: Andrea and Christian, called Krischan. The movie and their adventure begins when they enter an old town by the sea: Stralsund. The young people will experience many a surprise, and the real adventure is a journey of discovery for both of them; they want to find out what motivates the other, what goals they have and which character traits dominate. This also brings them face to face with the past, for example when Klein-Christian ate from Master Zillmann's liverwurst tree and was abandoned by the Snow Queen Luise, who had a heart of stone. Or Krischan meets Little Andrea, who always gnawed at her pigtails because she was afraid of her cheeky Uncle Albert. But now the two are turned towards the present and the future, and their behavior shows that their young love will last.

Ed Martin witnesses a murder at the hotel. Although the perpetrator is caught, he had previously taken papers from the victim's bag that prove a criminal connection between politicians and gangsters. The murderer's silence is bought with his release. But as the case has stirred up too much dust, a new perpetrator has to be found: Ed Martin, who witnessed everything. Beaten half to death, he confesses to the crime, but later recants. In the meantime, he has also found friends who want to defend him. Then he is found dead in his cell. The police who hanged him claim suicide.
