Ríša, a student of law, neglects his studies in favour of parties and pranks. His angry father refuses to continue helping him out of his debts. Ríša, however, is not entirely beyond hope. He decides to go and stay for a while with his uncle, a priest, who lives in Moravia, in order to prepare for his exams. He meets Helenka, the timid daughter of the local gamekeeper, at a village ball and is enchanted by her. The days pass and their idyllic relationship begins to tire Ríša. He begins to tell Helenka about his former debauched life the about the broken hearts of beautiful women. Helenka is hurt and refuses to see Ríša anymore. His uncle, the priest, is incensed at his behaviour and orders his nephew out of the house. Ríša tries desperately to find Helenka so he can make it up to her.

The troubles of a young married couple with an overprotective mother and mother-in-law. Usually it ends with a wedding, but this time it begins. Young doctor Petr Dvořák marries the charming Marta Hábová. However, their honeymoon to Venice is unexpectedly complicated by Martina's widowed mother, a rich, kind, but very absent-minded lady. First, they are not allowed to cross the border because they did not declare the things she secretly packed for them for the trip, and then they spend the night behind bars because the mother-in-law, in her absent-mindedness, reports the secretly packed things as stolen after she catches a pair of robbers in her house. Pavel Čamrda works as a clerk at an administrative bureau in Malá Strana. One day as he is listening to wandering minstrels he falls in love at first sight with a charming girl in the crowd. The superior at the bureau, counsel Švarc, takes ill and Čamrda brings him to his home the official papers for him to sign. What a surprise he has when he discovers that the girl who has smitten him is the counsel's daughter Viktorka. The counsel is ill for a long spell and the entire family becomes used to Čamrda's visits.

The story of a janitor's daughter who married into a "better man". Obedient to her mother and eager to "rise up" herself, Nanynka did everything she could to avoid being left with a bucket and rags and to be able to move a few floors higher. But marrying off a poor daughter is not exactly easy...

The owner of a clothing store, Mr. Načeradec, spends most of his free time in a café, where he plays chess with the owner of a rival store, Mr. Dundr, over mineral water. Načeradec's daughter Edith, coincidentally, starts practicing law at the same time as her boyfriend, Dundr's son. Mr. Načeradec often fills in for Mr. Findajs at the card company, who is currently dedicating himself to the wife of another player, Mr. Tachecí, the owner of a detective agency. Načeradec keeps his winnings, Findajs has to pay for the money he loses. One day, Mr. Načeradec is so unlucky in the game that he and Mr. Dundr get into a heated argument that ends up in court. Both men are represented by their children, who are rather amused by the situation.
