The “nerte” are wandering women who travel down from the Upper Friuli region to the Veneto region to sell wooden objects for domestic use. They live humbly, sleeping in barns and eating whatever they can to save what little they earn. The documentary follows one of these women on her long journey.

Giovanna and Franco are lovers pretending to be brother and sister in order to con unsuspecting marks while staying in the most luxurious locales throughout Europe. In their travels, they come across the beautiful Christina, a girl who is being threatened by her brother, Sergio, in order to get the family fortune. But as Giovanna and Franco delve into their story, the double-crossing begins, and no one is sure who is getting tricked.

A sweeping documentary explores China through its people, showcasing life in Beijing's old city and a bustling cotton factory, a collective farm in Henan, the historic city of Suzhou, and the industrial port of Shanghai, culminating in a vibrant acrobatic performance.
