British detective Tim Frazer hunts a myserious murderer who kills smugglers in the city of Antwerpen.

In a surreal, bureaucratically rigid society where ending one’s own life requires an official government permit, depressed florist Stefan Pielek makes the mistake of attempting suicide without the proper paperwork. Under police supervision, he submissively files his official application and closes his shop while waiting for the approval. However, during his aimless wanderings through the city, he meets a young woman who calls herself Ophelia. After falling deeply in love and rediscovering the joy of living, Stefan receives the ultimate bureaucratical blow: his suicide permit is approved, meaning that by law, he no longer exists.

In the heart of the Schipperskwartier, a grocery store and a café sit side by side, run by two inseparable friends, Jef and Rik. Rik, a widower, has three spirited children who can only be kept in line by Anneke, the ever-patient housekeeper. Wanting to see his friend happily remarried, Jef places an ad in the newspaper seeking potential brides. Two women respond, but Rik refuses to meet them himself. Smugglers try to ship their products via Pol Knol, a trader in medical products. Due to circumstances, the package remains on Mr Knol's desk. The smugglers think that Pol has deliberately withheld it. They come to pay him a "visit."

Five rather frivolous musicians seize the opportunity to perform on a cruise in the Mediterranean. Alas: they are under contract to engage a female singer - and they fear to fall in love with her, which would endanger their friendship.

Pierre lives with his mother in an antiquated house in a run-down working-class area. Every morning, Pierre takes the tram to his job at the town hall, where he listens to his colleagues' jokes over the lunch break. His only hope of banishing his boredom and frustration is a girl from the gymnastics club. One evening, when his mother is out of the house, he decides to invite her into his home [Avila].

This picture is a mixture of musical, adventure, science fiction and comedy with the popular singer Bobbejaan Schoepen and several famous Flemish actors.
