As U.S. troops storm the beaches of Normandy, three brothers lie dead on the battlefield, with a fourth trapped behind enemy lines. Ranger captain John Miller and seven men are tasked with penetrating German-held territory and bringing the boy home.

When schoolteacher Kieran Johnson discovers that his father was not a French sailor (as he had been led to believe) but rather an Irish farmer, he looks to his mother for answers. When she refuses to provide any, Kieran travels to Ireland.

Based on the Japanese novel 'Loving the Dead' from acclaimed author Kei Oishi, the film centres on a damaged young man who, after shutting himself away for ten years, is forced to venture out into a world that he no longer understands.

During WWII, a German soldier kills a stranger and subsequently falls victim to a cycle of supernatural encounters.
