Dale Chihuly

The Pilchuck Glass School outside Seattle has been going for 43 years. Started by Dale Chihuly, when glass in America was at its infancy. This school is responsible for making the US Studio Glass movement what it is today. It's an international institution now, bringing students from all over the world. It started in 1971, during the peace movements, Flower Power and war in Vietnam This documentary tells the story of it's beginnings, and how it's now made the Pacific NW, the largest glass art center in the world.

Lino Tagliapietra, considered by most as the greatest glassblower in history, is a mentor, motivator, and visionary. Bridging the divide between Italian and American glassblowing, Lino's career has transcended continents and inspired a new generation of glassblowers. Now 85, Lino continues to push the boundaries of the medium, testing the limits to see what both the material and the man can do.

Filmed with three cameras, this fascinating documentary captures prolific American glass artist Dale Chihuly re-creating his past works for an audience in the fishbowl-like "hotshop" of the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Wash. As part of Chihuly's weeklong residency at the museum, he invites glass blowers he's worked with over the course of his 30-year career to join him once again, revisiting 13 of his most well-known series.
