In 1909, four fearless entrepreneurs and then-unknown Irish writer James Joyce met in Trieste, the main port of the Austro-Hungarian empire, where he convinced them to expand their cinema business and invest in the opening of Ireland's first full time cinema. The Cinema Volta is not a historical documentary about the opening of a landmark cinema, but a light, spirited and modern personal search for the spirit of the people involved.

Aleksandra is a student from Krško, a small town in Slovenia. She has a plan to conquer the world. Working as a prostitute, her life is heading to where she wants it, but an accidental death has her wrestling with new feelings of fear, loneliness, confusion and responsibility

A historical saga, based on personal stories and the history of Brda (a region near the border in the west of Slovenia), depicts a bloody history of Europe, full of wars, nationalisms and at the same time cohabitation, which is always personal and common to everyone.
