In Berlin in the year 2030, young Tim Burdenski is found seriously injured on the Gendarmenmarkt. Following an emergency call from a cab driver, he is taken to hospital but dies despite a delayed emergency operation. Journalist Lena Bach begins to investigate, as the 30-year-old is one of ten so-called "millennium children" who have been followed by a television team in a long-term documentary since his birth on January 1, 2000. All of them come from the middle class.

To save his grumpy father's Persian butcher's shop, Mohsen, a sensitive scarf-knitter, buys sheep on the cheap. On the way to them, he gets stranded in East Germany and falls in love with ex-ball-striker Ana. In the village, Mohsen's father is thought to be a rich businessman who could save the region. Mohsen becomes very popular. But then his father turns up.

The fates of three German-born Muslims in Berlin collide as they struggle to find their place between faith and modern life in contemporary western society, caught at a crossroads where alluring liberated lifestyles conflict with deeply-rooted traditions.

Three people, who didn't know each other bevore, are driving together through Germany in a small car...

Nico (33), German-Persian, emancipated and happy, is the most popular geriatric nurse for her patients. With her best friend Rosa (37), she enjoys the summer in Berlin. A xenophobic attack tears the self-confident NICO from its self-determined everyday life. Waking up in the hospital, she realizes that she doesn't seem to be a part of it after all.
