Attractive Julia Swinton is a middle-aged woman. Her life went normally and without big occurrences. But through the unexplained death of a familiar young lady in a houseboat and the sudden appearance of a strange stranger, unrest and threat now break into the seemingly so peaceful everyday life of the Swinton family. As it soon turns out, Mr. Swinton has a secret relationship with the lady on the boathouse...

A foreman’s son and his noble friend, who have voluntarily arrived from Berlin to help out with the harvest, switch their billeting coupons while on the journey, so as to play a trick on the estate owner, who is related to one of them. The wrong boy is asked to sit at the estate owner’s table, while the real relative is pushed off on the servants. And so begins a game of confusion with amusing results.

Celia Lövengaart was formerly involved with the theatre and was able to live a carefree life. But now she's in financial difficulties. The court appointed trustee grants her enough money for a trip to Tirol, where she's going to visit her daughter Susanne, who was raised by her grandparents. Susanne is supposed to marry Richard, whom she can't stand and her mother tolerates him even less. Celia wants to help her daughter, but that's easier said than done: Richard knows about her lively past and is blackmailing her to keep her nose out of his affairs. If she doesn't agree to this wedding, he'll tell everything the consul Hoyermann, Susanme's guardian, and there will be a big stink.

In 1957 Gustaf Gründgens staged a new production of Goethe's Faust in which he once again played Mephisto, a part he had played since 1932. The brilliant production was a huge success and ran for a couple of years. In 1959 Peter Gorski captured the performance on film in his directorial film debut. Basically it is a registration of the production, but Gorksi did manage to accentuate the details of the acting by using enough medium and close-up shots which give a view on the acting you normally would not able to see in a theater.

French teacher Annette Müller has two ardent admirers who are constantly urging her to marry: diplomat Klaus and engineer Theo. But she can't make up her mind. Then a third one joins them, the pianist Hans. Sometimes she dreams of Klaus, sometimes of Theo. And although she is angry that Hans has taken up residence in her boarding house, she can't stop herself from dreaming about him too. When she asks him, of all people, which of the other two she should marry, there is a big row between them - and she realizes who the right man is.

After the war ends he is discharged and left penniless when the government suspects his noble deed was actually due to a bribe. Believing his lost honour makes him unworthy Tellheim breaks his engagement to Minna von Barnhelm, but she tracks him down to a Berlin tavern to win him back. To test his love Minna pretends she has also lost her wealth, prompting Tellheim’s protective instincts to finally override his stubborn pride. The film concludes with a royal decree from Frederick the Great, restoring Tellheim's rank and fortune and allowing the couple to marry.
