Maren-Kea Freese

A young woman makes a living as a disc jockey in Berlin without having a permanent home or real friends. She accidentally discovers that her mother has died and sets out on a search for clues, which also leads her to her penniless father.

An intense two-person drama about a dysfunctional love affair with cult actor and musician Lars Rudolph ("Run Lola Run").

Wilma has many qualifications and talents, yet suffers just as many disappointments in life. After she catches her husband cheating, she runs away to Vienna in search of a new life. There she lives with bustling bohemians, tries her luck at a variety of jobs and perhaps... at love again.

A story focusing on the difficult relationship between a professional pickpocket and her 15-year-old daughter.

Maren Kea-Freese's short film ZOE is about an elevator girl in Berlin's TV Tower on Alexanderplatz. It shows the daily life of a woman trying to find herself in a city that is itself in transition. ZOE was shot in 1992, not long after the reunification of Berlin. The poetic 16mm black and white imagery shows Eastern districts such as Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg before many buildings there were demolished or remodeled.

In this silent short, shot in gritty yet lyrical black and white, a young woman takes a breather in Berlin's bucolic Tiergarten park. Yet as time passes, she grows anxious.
