Adaptation of the highly popular children's novel by Branko Copic, who in this book resembles his school and college days in Bihac, Bosnia, in the years before WWII.

A poor village in Herzegovina suffers from constant flooding and different armies that periodically plunder the countryside. One woman is convinced that the solution to the problems lies in making a tunnel that should take the water to the sea.

An alcoholic Bosnian poet sends his wife and daughter away from Sarajevo so they can avoid the troubles there. However, he is soon descended upon by a pair of orphaned brothers. The brothers have escaped a massacre in their own village and have come to the Bosnian capital in search of a long lost Aunt. The poet befriends the boys and together they try to survive the horror of the siege of Sarajevo.

The gym teacher is in love with his colleague, a music teacher. She has a fair and cordial relationship with him, but nothing more than that. A young student moves into the building where the music teacher lives.

The richest merchant in XIX century Sarajevo and his fellow travelers are captured by a group of bandits. In order to learn more about merchant’s riches, the bandits’ leader investigates the group and discovers that merchant’s wife, who cheated on merchant during one of his travels, later – in fear of his vengeance played to be possessed by “rage”. Looking for the cure, the merchant brings his wife to Ahmed Jusuf – former warrior and man of authority. Jusuf advised the merchant to take his wife and move into another region – having an idea on what was the story behind wife’s rage, bat also in an attempt to protect himself from the feelings that have already stifled.

The plot takes place in pre-war Yugoslavia, and the protagonist, interpreted by Zvonko Lepetic, is Jefto, a prison guard who lives with his family as a tenant in a basement. The plot shows how, convinced that he is destined for great things, he betrays his family, a friend and subordinates everything to his vanity.

A former bowler (former trader as well) finds the meaning of life in tailoring female clothes, a job through which he meets women of all interests.
