As the new government takes over South Vietnam following the Fall of Saigon, civil engineer Dương Tấn is fearful of imminent repression. He and his colleagues are dispatched to fix a hydroelectric plant where they meet Đỗ Long, a bubbly engineer from the North.

After a streak of betrayals in love, a scholar harbours a disdain for women and vows to stay away from their “venomous nature”. However, he soon grows increasingly obsessed with a prostitute he encountered one night, and falls deeply in love with her against the prejudices of his social class.

The plot of the film revolves around revolutionary soldiers who come from different classes, but all share the same patriotism. They had to overcome many life-and-death challenges and enormous adversities in order to mobilise the masses to prepare for an uprising and seize power from the Japanese fascists, in a situation where the country fell into the tragedy of famine.

Silent Soldiers tells the stories of soldiers on the battlefield. The film is set amongst the opening of the campaign against Buon Ma Thuot. The troops hid in the rubber forest waiting for orders. Old Lung and his daughter Ho May are the silent soldiers operating in the enemy's heart, as scouts for the army. News of Gia Lung's father and son helped the army capture Buon Ma Thuot.
