Arthur Adamov

Vassili Mikhailovich Ordynov, a poor and reclusive young man, must look for new accommodation. By chance, he meets a middle-aged man, Mourine, and a young woman, Catherine, who accepts him as a sub-tenant...

This psychological drama begins after a young woman has committed suicide. Her husband, a cynical pawnbroker, sits desperately by her body. Through a feverish internal monologue and flashbacks, he attempts to reconstruct the events. He tries to justify his own behavior and subtly shifts the blame for the tragedy onto her, while the viewer unravels the destructive dynamics of their marriage.

Professor Taranne, a conceited university Professor, is subject to several absurd and disquieting incidents from the world surrounding him. He is being accused of things he couldn't have been doing. He starts doubting himself - a self that might be fragmented or multiple.
