Zones césariennes (which covers the year 2002) is one of Gérard Courant's Filmed Notebooks shot on film. These episodes now coexist with their counterparts filmed on videotape. They are two films with parallel lives but opposing destinies, colliding and eyeing each other warily. They represent two approaches, two styles, two different ways of understanding cinema. Two methods for unfolding time, grasping memory, and exploring the world.

I was with Rose when I discovered this flowery underwear for 1€ at the Place Jean Jaurès market in Marseille. Roselyne Roche had begun to make films in Super 8 well before me. I dedicate this short film in pink, red, black and white to Rose. I made it for her with me, named it ‘A Rose’ for the circumstances. I was 25 years old August 16th 1999 in Connemara, South Ireland. Road movie whilst the clouds and the rest of time pass by. This film followed the December 2000 criteria: a passing through film.

During my journey there are encounters of everyday music. My neighbour’s cello, my flatmate’s voice mixes with piano tuners. If we walk around, the Romanian Circus gipsy dances take over the street and Paris livens up with the sunny pace of a town with ocean reflections, however ignored by the local children.
