Romantic comedy about a series of mix-ups. Brigitte Kaufmann wants to divorce her husband Jörg who is an engineer and chief executive of an electronics company – and a hopeless pedant. Benno, a former boy friend of Brigitte, has a slightly bizarre idea how they could save their marriage. A piano player, whom Benno has seen in a bar, and who looks exactly like Jörg, is asked to work his charms on Brigitte and to try to dissuade her from divorce while Jörg is on a business trip. Piano player Engel agrees on the plan and acts as Jörg at home with Brigitte as well as in Jörg′s workplace.

Josef Neumann has always been an outsider to society, and at the age of 30, he has already lived an adventurous life when he comes to the GDR. He was raised as a foundling by nuns, made an apprenticeship as a construction worker, went to the Foreign Legion, and was a seaman and a tramp. Now, he is working at the Warnow shipyard. Brigadier Bruno has a lot of sympathy and patience with the unconventional Josef, but Josef cannot fall in line with strict orders and again and again acts against the rules.

In the 1930s, the Soviet ship "Chelyuskin" embarked on an expedition to the Northern Ocean. But soon there is an accident in the ice and the team can save themselves on an ice floe. Two months, the over one hundred people have to persevere there until rescue from the air finally approaches.

Jakob, the son of a market woman, helps an old woman carry the groceries home one day. But the old woman turns out to be a herb witch. She enchants Jakob into a dwarf with a huge nose. He enters her service and is trained to become an excellent cook. Only years later does he return to his parents as an enchanted dwarf nose. Not even they recognize him. Disappointed, he offers his services to the duke's kitchen as a master of his trade. As a successful cook, he is nevertheless put to the test. For he does not know the herb "sneeze-with-lust". Fortunately for him, his new friend, the equally enchanted goose Mimi, whose life he has saved, does.

Dr. Zacharias is an experienced and demanding woman. She sees her daughter Manuela as the continuation and fulfillment of her own life. She wants her daughter to achieve as much or more than her, and under the easier conditions of the present time. But Manuela does not seem to be the type who can fulfill this aspiration, as she is superficial and stubborn. Manuela is even expelled from the university for cheating. But even now she seems unwilling to recognize her mistakes and turn her life around.

Ulf would do anything to win Biggi's heart. Because he wants to impress her, he decides to join the sailing club. Despite the mockery of his friends, he is not dissuaded from his plan and spares no effort to make an impression on his beloved. But she only gives him the cold shoulder, whereupon he manipulates her boat. As a result, Biggi ends up in last place in an important regatta race. A lost box is a strange one that nobody knows. It appears in the middle of an apartment exchange involving the Ilse and Rudi Karschek family and another couple. Since no one can be assigned to this box, it is opened; the contents: the portrait of an attractive girl who dedicated it to "her" Rudi. Rudi, however, is quite sure that this must be a misunderstanding. But then his wife Ilse receives a phone call in their new apartment that is not at all misleading, which brings the situation in the Karschek family to a head. In this respect, the whole affair becomes a total "mess".

The Soviet boy Kostya is an enthusiastic radio operator. When fascist German troops occupy his home town, the 13-year-old is conscripted into forced labor. His hatred of the occupying forces grows, but he is too young to join a partisan unit. But then he comes across a badly wounded Soviet scout. Kostya summons up all his courage and takes on his dangerous mission.
