Scotland, 11th century. Successful businessman Joe Lampton is married to the wealthy Susan, has two children, and lives in the mill town of Warley in northern England. But his career seems to have plateaued, leaving him disillusioned. This feeling is only exacerbated when he discovers his wife's infidelity with local man Mark. So he takes up with attractive TV host Norah and moves with her to London, aiming to reignite the fire that drove him to the top.

When Scotland Yard finds themselves up against a brick wall in tracking down a vicious gang of thieves and bank robbers, they call in Layton, a loner from MI5 to work his way into the gang and help bring them down.

An accident in the butchers shop leads Norman Pitkin and Mr Grimsdale to the hospital where, after causing the normal amount of chaos, Pitkin finds Lindy, a little girl who hasn't spoken or smiled since her parents were killed in an aeroplane accident. Pitkin decides to help.

Tod Slaughter goes about the countryside strangling everybody. His evil scheme is to destroy the family who wronged him. He has a secret lab complete with a torture chamber, featured in the films climax. Probably the most maniacal portrayal Tod ever gave.

A young couple have a baby boy. However, the new father doesn't take to his new position quite as well as expected.

A change in a will, a murder and a mysterious letter. The police look to a former cat burglar to aid them in the investigation.
