John marries Fairchild's daughter Eleanor, with whom he is infatuated, so that Fairchild can benefit, although Eleanor marries only for the half-million dollars involved. After Whipple returns and pursues Eleanor, John offers her a divorce if she will sign the money over to her father. When Whipple makes her suspect that John loves a young widow, Eleanor writes a note of farewell and leaves, but she is stopped by Whipple, who wanting to elope, embraces her. When John sees this and fights Whipple, Eleanor shields John from a bullet and is wounded. She recovers, and, learning that John loves her, declares her love.

Little Patty Barnes lives with her grandfather, Captain Amos Barnes, in a rickety shack on the New England coast. Hope has an act in a traveling circus where she is "the rainbow princess" and performs a Hula dance. The owner of the circus pawns the girl off on Judge Daingerfield as his long-lost granddaughter. Hope goes to live with the judge, and to the horror of his upstanding family, insists on having the circus performers over as her guests. But the whole ruse, unbeknownst to her, is so that the circus owner's sons can rob the judge.

Natali, a Hindu, marries an Englishman, Sir Christopher Madgwick. They have a daughter who is kidnapped by Natali's former suitor Sani. The girl is handed over to be trained as a vestal virgin. Natali dies and Madgwick returns to England, taking with him the precious ruby that Natali had snatched from Sani in a struggle. Years pass; Sir Christopher remarries and has two more children who mistreat him and Sani dies, revealing to the priests the location of the ruby, which he stole from them in the first place.

Gertrude Sawyer supports herself and an invalid sister on her wages as stenographer of a large corporation, but her income does not allow her to fulfill her longing to have her sister seek the remedy of the seaside, or to furnish what conduces to quick recovery. Gertrude's employer, Charles Hardin, has a business rival, Joe Elbert, whom he is anxious to crush. Eager to obtain inside information, Hardin so contrives matters that Gertrude quits his employ and secures a similar position with Elbert

The beginning of the film deals with the love romance of a deep-sea diver and the daughter of an old curio collector, whose past life takes up a good part of the film and reveals to the spectator his younger days as he tells them the story of his romance and marriage.

Marion, a young girl, is given up by her guardian to be raised by her father who has a criminal past. Under the enchanting influence of his daughter, he renounces his life of crime. However, a former partner frames him for a robbery he did not commit, and he is sent to prison. When her father is finally released , he seeks his ashamed daughter's forgiveness and explains being sent to prison on false charges. He wins the sympathy of Marion and along with her fiancés, a happy ending prevails for all.
