However, Jožka wins everything there is to win despite various ups and downs – he stands up to bullying in the youth home, an arrogant tutor, human weaklings, manages to study well even at a school that he doesn't enjoy and does sports. Based on a Jack London story, this is another attempt at a Western spectacle - after the short story triptych The Canyon of Gold - about a teenage boy who, after his father's death, lives in a gold-mining town. He even witnesses a cruel fight between two cowboys over a supposed treasure.

The story begins at the airport and on an international express train, which is being carried by a German citizen, Otto Lang. The conductor and his girlfriend are solving the problem of living together, and it seems that the conductor has come into a lot of money. In the evening, a fight breaks out between two young men in a nearby pub. The next day, the body of one of them is found near the track. However, the investigators come across another body in the forest, this time that of an unknown man. They try to find out his identity and the relationship between the dead. They start questioning the people who were on duty on the express train that night. They also come across several hotel scammers. Then another clue appears – heroin found on another German citizen. With each new fact, the search seems more difficult...

One of them, law student Pavel, is more attracted to film than to law. With his eight-millimeter camera, he films everything that catches his attention. One day he captures an interesting face on film, a girl with an air of mystery. Pavel visits the girl, whose name is Helena, and meets hers and her elder energetic sister Olga. From Olga, he learns that the girls have spent the years of German occupation in a concentration camp and cannot forget the horrors they have lived through.

Imagine the astonishment of his father and his colleagues from the design studio when the father finds the guinea pig in his briefcase...

Tóna Bohácek has been a great worry to his mother, Mrs Bohácková. All his friends equal in age are already married and some of them even have children - only Tóna still has nothing. Mother Bohácková thus publishes an ad in the Lonely Hearts column on behalf of her son. From among the girls who responded, she picks out Janicka, a girl from the neighboring village, and then forces Tóna to go to have a look at her and bring her home. The date of the two young people, however, does not turn out well due to the embarrassment on both sides, and Tóna returns home drowning in the feeling of ridiculousness. On the way, he picks up hitchhiker Kveta from Prague. Only then, he realizes that the mother with her festive dinner is waiting for him and Janicka at home and thus asks Kveta to substitute for the girl from the ad.
