Pan Wenzhan was a director of Beijing Film Studio. He studied in Yan'an Lu Xin art university and later in the Beijing Film Academy. In 1938 he participated in the revolution, serving as a propaganda officer in the prefectural committee of the third district of Jizhong, an actor in the North China United University Art Troupe, an actor and a teacher in the Beijing Military Region Anti-Enemy Drama Club, and an actor and director in the Shanghai Film Studio after the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Xiao Zhenkui, the leader of the "Communist Removal Group", took the opportunity to return to the countryside to launch a white terror. Mengzi's father, chairman of the Township Soviet, and his sister were killed at the same time. The pregnant Wu'er gave birth to a child on the way to escape.
