The people are torn between the decision to leave their roots, the heat, the economic debacle and the new promise of progress, this time on another planet. The pampinos prepare to leave their past behind and embark on a space voyage, the last exodus from the saltpeter pampas.

In the middle of Atacama Desert, vestiges of the last nitrate industry are​ ​found, while the residents witness the crash of an industry located in the driest​ ​place on Earth.

Benja is a high school inspector and is determined to expel the protestor Iván, a friend of his daughter Karina, who dies during a protest. Benja discovers that he never really knew her and tries to rectify the situation through the rebellious Iván
