Josef Loucký is the popular mayor of the village of Sedlčánky and has ambitions to win the prestigious title of Village of the Year. The village already has almost everything it needs to secure victory. Various parodies of a public library, museum, public swimming pool, and ice rink can be found here. The only thing missing for success is a sewage system. The mayor has been promised a subsidy for the construction of a sewage treatment plant if he has the sewers dug across the entire village within two weeks. Thanks to his efforts, however, the village has a completely new road and sidewalks. So there is only one option left. The sewer system will run through the gardens. Everyone agrees with this plan, except for one person, the mayor's father-in-law, Topol.

Patients flock to the newly opened "slimming" sanatorium with the aim of losing weight. And although each of them has a different reason for doing so, they are all now undergoing the most bizarre procedures and exercises under the supervision of an ascetic head physician, all without food, alcohol, or sex. For most of them, this makes their stay at the sanatorium a nightmare. Jedlík's characters are romantic and foolish, funny and touching, and none of them lack a sense of humor. They are all guided by love, for people, things, work, and, of course, food, and each of them ultimately finds it.

No one has ever managed to enter the dark cave of the fairy Asteria twice. Anyone brought here by chance or curiosity has been petrified. Emigrants rarely do well abroad, which is why they often return to their homeland. At least, that's what the film The Poachers claims. But the long years of separation and different experiences create alienation, and the returnees lose touch with their loved ones. This is exactly what happens to the main character, who cannot understand the changes that the Czech village has undergone. Neither with his son nor with his wife can he find common ground. Although the director Hynek Bočan relies on expressive portrayal, the basic problem of the story remains its lifelessness.

A poignant overview of how short life can be, this interesting drama from Czech director Vojetch Jasny is divided into four separate segments.
