A welcome guest of the French aristocracy, Monsieur Picard having been awarded the Croix De Guerre, is also a master thief who baffles the Parisian police. One night, while Picard watches an Apache dance, he learns that one of his three adopted children is seriously ill. When his car breaks down, Picard politely forces Helen Deprenay to loan him her auto, and leaves his cross as security. The next day, the police pursue Picard to the Deprenay home where the prefect warns Helen about Picard. Helen writes to the entreating Picard, and refuses to see him until he proves himself of worth to society. Disguised as Scotland Yard agent Armand DuBois, Picard is present at the Deprenay home when a necklace is stolen. After Helen covers for him, Picard catches the thief in an attempt to swindle the entire community in a stock market scheme. He informs the police that Picard no longer exists, and escapes with Helen to a new life.

Sweedie is the scrub lady in the theater. She makes eyes at the stage manager and the hypnotist and is put out of the theater for being so impertinent. Next day while she is out feeding her chickens, she falls asleep and dreams that she has been left an immense fortune by her uncle and that the stage manager and the hypnotist are rivals for her hand.

He dashed off some sentimental guff called, "When Willie Came to Say Good-Night," and it was punk. He threw it in the wastebasket but when his friend came in he discovered it and set out to sell it. He finally found a magazine editor who gave him a check for $500, and it was like picking money off a bush. The author, who was an old bachelor and a kid hater, was tickled to death to get the dough, but when letters came in congratulating him on his excellent poem and sympathizing with him, he was bored to death.

Finding himself broke and out of a job in Paris, American William Ruggles joins the Turkish army and is sent to fight in its war in the Balkans. During a particularly hard-fought battle, he rescues a wounded Turkish soldier. Before he dies the Turk, out of gratitude, leaves William his fortune - but with the proviso that he take care of the Turk's three beautiful young wards.

Orphan Hilda Swanson's prayers are answered when a Swedish-American colonization company agrees to send her to America. Aboard the steamer, she meets Olaf, a young Swede, and Donna, an enemy courier who is posing as a passenger. Learning that the secret service is on her trail, Donna sews secret documents into the hem of Hilda's skirt. She then sends a wire to her comrade Felix Martinez, notifying him to intercept the Swedish girl.

Mr. Forflush has a great desire for spending money, but his salary does not warrant the luxuries his life necessitates. The time finally comes when his creditors hound him. One dame thought every wife ought to provide her companion with an intellectual atmosphere so he wouldn't sneak out at night to the thirst parlor.

The boy has a camera and snaps Sweedie, the cook, while sitting on the bench in the back yard. Later he takes a picture of his father while sitting on the same bench. He forgets to turn the film in his camera, so gets a double exposure, giving the effect of Sweedie sitting on his father's lap

Mr. and Mrs. Skidoo receive a letter from Lord Bunkum, saying he is coming to pay them a visit. They decide they do not wish to see the Lord, so they leave, telling Sweedie to inform his Lordship they have been called away. Meantime a tramp finds the Lord's letter, which Mr. Skidoo has dropped, and decides to impersonate Lord Bunkum.

The coming "champ" decides he is so good he can go around a Dub like a Cooper around a Barrel.

Dancing instructor Madame Cassell spends the day having her feet trampled by auto enthusiast Wally trying to teach him the prevailing dance craze. In gratitude Wally takes her for a spin in his new fangled automobile.
