“Hummadruz” is the scientific term for certain mysterious unidentifiable sounds that come from the earth. They say that especially those who have left their homeland constantly hear these sounds. The first part of this film takes place in the arid land east of Turkey. Memories of a childhood romance, children’s games and laughter, sleeping with an ill mother, are sandwiched with close-up images of eyes wide-open, blood, fear, and tension. The second narrative half tells the story of a man and his infant son who for no apparent reason jump to their death off a bridge on the Bosphorus, and a wife who follows. Dramatizing a true story, the film expresses the desperation and frustration of those who had no choice but to migrate to Istanbul from their beloved homeland.

A young midwife arrives in an Anatolian village. She goes to her first birth; she tries not to show it, but she is very excited. The village’s elderly midwife is annoyed by the presence of this young, city-dwelling midwife and a feud develops between them, until she discovers the secret of an underdeveloped child.

In this biographical drama, the Turkish writer Rifat Ilgaz (Tarik Akan) is forced to go into internal exile after World War Two, because the government suspects him of being a communist. Most of the movie follows him while he is on the lam, and during his reunion with his wife, who grows testy from the restrictions that hiding him impose on her. During his incarceration, his mother has been institutionalized in a psychiatric hospital due to schizophrenia.He tries to rebuild his life and cope with the burdens that followed him during his time inside. He also has to deal with the emotional and practical weight of his mother’s condition. Meanwhile, a young journalist (Meral) is interested in exposing and writing about the lives of “prisoners of fate”. Ferdi and Meral’s paths cross and her work brings her into contact with Ferdi and the struggles he’s facing.
