Johannes Guillaume Christianus Andreas (Jan) Marijnissen (Oss, October 8, 1952) is a Dutch former politician. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the States General from 1994 to 2010 on behalf of the Socialist Party. From 1988 to 2015, he was party chairman of the SP, and from 1994 to 2008, he was parliamentary group leader and political leader of his party.

Director Coen Verbraak approaches the SP leader with the proposal to follow him as he prepares for the elections, which are likely to come in a year or two. Roemer says ‘yes’. For these could be historic times, both for his party and for the Netherlands. Two days after that meeting, the first Rutte cabinet falls, and everything accelerates rapidly. As an undecided voter, Frans interviews the party leaders Paul Rosenmöller (GroenLinks), Pim Fortuyn (LPF), Thom de Graaf (D66), Jan Marijnissen (SP), Fred Teeven (LN), and Hans Dijkstal (VVD) about their election manifestos. He tries to find out who he should vote for.
