7.2An odyssey across the places of origin of Western civilization: Greece, subsumed by economic crisis; where the mind, the soul, and the music of its people lie, specially the Rebetes, the Rebetiko singers, considered as the Hellenic equivalent to blues; this music against the establishment was born among refugees who arrived to Greece from Asia Minor and proliferated in poor urban neighborhoods. In the journey of composer and musician Vinicio Capossela through the taverns of Athens and Thessalonica, this film records his music, his wandering life, and his travel journal, revealing at the same time the collective scars the crisis has left in a place where everything seems to have lost its value.

7.1For decades, wherever people have fought against injustice, they have sung “Bella ciao.” It is said to have been the anthem of Italian partisans fighting against fascism in the Second World War, but there are those who doubt the truth of this. The origins of the song are unclear. Was it a folk song favored by exploited workers in the rice fields in Italy? The accounts of various speakers are richly illustrated with archive material.

7.0A timeless spa town, a 1940s hotel, a place that transports the present to who knows where. Not the past, Ornella Vanoni's life, but the revelation—current—of her intimacy, exhibited through a relationship: her relationship with the director. The energy, the character, the music, the confrontations, the heat, the fatigue. Everything is filmed without sparing anything, not even the arguments between Ornella and Elisa. The film goes along with what Ornella naturally generates and bends to the unexpected, to the present. And then there are the encounters with friends, musicians, Vinicio Capossela, Samuele Bersani, Paolo Fresu's trumpet resounding in the empty spaces of the grand hotel where, between identical days marked by care and treatment, the story, the memory, but also the future take shape as Ornella prepares to become a fantastic creature made of voice and dreams, destined for eternity.

NRShut away in his home, at the top of a very steep staircase of thirty steps, Enzo Del Re manages—though not without effort—to bend the world to himself rather than be bent by it. A Puglian storyteller of extraordinary evocative power, Enzo Del Re is also a musician of remarkable innovative ability in musical production and in the use of humble, makeshift instruments. An icon of Apulian music, little known yet overwhelming once discovered. Through his story, three important decades of the Italian cultural scene are retraced, from Nanni Ricordi to Dario Fo, all the way to Nuova Scena and the Circoli Ottobre. Then darkness, and today the rediscovery of Del Re at the May Day concert in 2010 alongside Vinicio Capossela. Today he claims that he “did not fight for a pension, but for the revolution.”

Capossela denounces the impossibility for mankind to realize the Christian precept: "Love your neighbor as yourself". Thus Christ renounced his mission, made himself poor and ended up poor man. And now he is silent, while the man screams as loud as he can.
