Hollyoaks Later is a spin-off from the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks. Broadcast on E4 with a late night slot, the series began in 2008, and was an annual event for the soap until 2013, when there was a break, until it returned with a special episode in 2020. Each of the original series was shown over five consecutive nights. The late night airing allowed for more sexual content, "edgier" storylines, and stronger language. Each series is a stand-alone story, although each ties in with events on the main show at the time, with the producers often taking advantage of the later broadcast time to tie up loose ends on the more violent and controversial storylines.

August 1917. Two pilots whose aircraft was shot down by the Germans hide in a castle. They meet Justin, the employee, who has just killed his master.

A French squadron of chasseurs d'Afrique was sent to Medjez-el Bab with the mission of occupying the bridge over the Medjerda. But the captain is mute and the cavalrymen don't know whether the operation is being prepared against the Germans or the Allies. The first hypothesis inflames Maréchal des Logis Bourgeon and his friend Maurice, who have not forgotten the defeat of '40. In the village, Maurice meets up with his friend Léa, a refugee, and discovers with fury that she is Jewish, because he doesn't like Jews any more than he likes English or Germans! The hunters set up camp on the bridge. Soon, a German column appears and demands passage. The captain refuses, awaiting orders from Vichy. But in Tunis, confusion reigns. Finally, the captain himself takes the initiative to oppose the passage of the German troops...

A young architect, Luca Fabiani, arrives in Venice to restore an ancient building in the Jewish ghetto. Here he discovers that on the top floor there is an apartment still inhabited by Elio Sorani, an elderly writer who has been living in seclusion for years, immersed in his memories. Elio is often visited by Giulia, a young woman who exchanges furtive and quick conversations with him. Giulia has an art gallery, where she meets with the man she is having an affair with, the Russian Sacha, an art critic who has now become a mediator of paintings between Italy and Russia. After overcoming an initial moment of mistrust, Luca and Elio become friends, and Elio gives Luca the manuscript of an unpublished novel, which Luca believes will enable him to reconstruct the writer's past.
