Bong-su, who has been missing since the Korean War, returns to his hometown. A death notice for him has already been sent to his hometown, and his fiancée, Jeong-sun, has already married another man, Sang-ho. Bong-su tries to persuade Jeong-sun to forget about Sang-ho and return to him, but she tells him that it's something that cannot be undone. Tormented by his pain, Bong-su begins to show signs of delusional behavior and ends up strangling Jeong-im, Sang-ho's younger sister, who had a crush on him. Later, it is revealed that the death notice for Bong-su was a fake, created by Sang-ho so he could marry Jeong-sun.

A patriot Park No-Hun is dispatched by Shanghai Provisional Government for Independence to assassinate members of the House of Council. In this situation Young-Kuk, brother of Hyeon-Ju who is a kisaeng of Myeong Wol Kwan, is jailed and Choi Chil-Yong, an inspector of Japanese Higher Police Department, is in agony of difficulties between Korea and Japan. Shin Yun-Il, a member of the council falls in love with a kisaeng whose name is Jeong-Mi. All of these are going their way under the influence of phases of the times such as carrying out colonial policies and each of them is linked complicatedly and causes troubles. After all their efforts concentrated on Independence of Korea, and Park No-Hun carried out his mission with help of 5 kisaengs of Myeong Wol Kwan. Finally he leaves for Shanghai with them.

With the result of the brain operation, Kyu-Ae has the lower half of her body paralyzed and lives on a wheelchair with her husband Hyeong-Jin, a professor, and her cousin Kyu-Hee who takes care of housework. As Mi-Ran, who loved Hyeong-Jin before and now is divorced her husband, returns from America, the love between Hyeong-Jin and Kyu-Ae breaks. When Kyu-Ae knows Kyu-Hee loves Hyeong-Jin, she becomes almost mad. Kyu-Hee decides to marry a factory worker Young-Kil to keep Kyu-Ae and Hyeong-Jin's relationship good. But Kyu-Ae asks him a divorce, asking him to marry Kyu-Hee. After he decides to divorce, Kyu-Ae kills herself. As the result, Kyu-Hee leaves him.
