In order to recover the body of her son lost during the war in Bosnia, a grieving, but strong-willed Muslim woman, Halima, must track down her estranged niece, who we find carries a mysterious connection to him.

The investigation on the accidental shot will intertwine their destinies at a moment when they both find that they are pregnant. A huge turning point in their lives, each in her own world and equally left on their own, these two women will, step by step, become close during the investigation.

Still today, years after the war, some regions are contaminated with broken families, poverty, crime and low-grade uranium. It is 1945 in Zagreb, and everyone is settling into the new regime following the disturbances of the war. Matilda is a wealthy widow of a war hero and has an apartment so spacious that she is required to take a boarder. Fortunately for her, the handsome young Lt. Horvat, the communist housing officer, has taken a fancy to her and has assigned his fiancee to be Matilda's new roommate. Where Matilda is soft and rounded, Lilijana is hard, skinny, and given to revolutionary pronouncements rather than tender endearments. The lieutenant loves them both, though he naturally finds Matilda more attractive. His situation is simplified when Lilijana, though pregnant, is transferred to another post. However, his commander is horrified that he has a lover in addition to his fiancee and demands that he choose whether to continue his career or continue his affair.

After WW II many young people arrive to Zagreb, among them a young worker Sonja Kacar. She is supposed to participate in the construction of the first generator in the Rade Koncar factory. Because there aren't enough experts and materials in Yugoslavia, the factory counts on help from fellow communist countries, Czechoslovakia and Soviet Union. However, after the Inform Bureau's resolution this help is no longer available. Sonja experiences a great intimate disappointment because Stjepan, who she is in love with, supports Stalin.

A new unpleasant tenant is moving into a Jewish apartment. One of the old tenants decides to scare him away with the help of the ghost of the Jewish family's patriarch.

When Dr. Lovro Furato accidentally fails to treat the injured eye of the peasant Barisa Surac, the whole silent conflict between the two worlds, rich urban and backward rural, will emerge to the surface.

Set in pre-World War II Zagreb, the story is seen through the eyes of 6-year-old Perica Šafranek (played by Tomislav Žganec). A dandy from Zagreb, Mr Fulir (played by Relja Bašić), starts flirting with Perica's mother during a family picnic. At first, Perica's father doesn't notice anything, but wants to marry off Perica's aunt, so he invites the man to their residence. After multiple rendezvous, Perica's father becomes aware of Fulir's attempts to seduce his wife.

I. S. returns after many years to his hometown, from which he escaped after WW II, fearing that, as a civil clerk of the NDH, could suffer prosecution from the new government. He has been falsely accused to be a member of Ustasha movement.

Ljubica is a middle-aged woman who lives in Zagreb and works as an audio pedagogue with deaf-mute children. She herself has a small child, while her husband she hardly communicates to, works in Germany. Coincidentally, she starts an affair with Zlatko, a much younger yet a man from a wealthy background. Although Zlatko is not much concerned about bourgeois views of his parents and has sincere love for Ljubica, it seems that their relationship has no future...

The action takes place in the Dalmatian hinterland and displays how the effects of modern life disintegrate local population in the villages.

A TV film based on single act drama written by Miroslav Krleza, that belongs to his expressionist phase. It was first published in 1922, and then regularly as a part of collection of plays called "Legends". By giving them this primordial biblical names, in this drama Krleza speaks about the intricate relation between two lovers, while interweaving reality and unreality, giving wider context of human relations to everything.
