On June 1st, 2019, around 11:30pm, the shoot which represents a turning point in the federal republic falls. In the hessian small town Wolfhagen-Istha, the district president of Kassel, Walter Lübcke, is murdered during this night, while, just a few meters away, the annual carnival is putting the locals into a festive mood. It is DNA-evidence on the clothes of Walter Lübcke which leads the investigators on June 15th, 2019, to his presumptive murderer: Stephan Ernst. The previously convicted right-wing extremist Ernst gets arrested by a SEK unit in Kassel. A first background check reveals: Stephan Ernst was known to the security authorities, but they did not have him on their radar for six years. Now he is back. And a person is dead. The docu-drama “Schuss in der Nacht” („Shoot in the dark“) tells emotionally, and simultaneously factually, how the deadly attack on Lübcke came to be. It tells about the first far-right motivated murder of a politician since the era of national socialism.

An aspiring young politician named Willy Brandt wants to become German Chancellor, but the current Chancellor Konrad Adenauer wants to prevent this at all costs and by any means necessary. Adenauer has the secret service and old alliances with a Nazi past on his side and has Brandt's election campaign spied on and torpedoed by informants in the party executive. He pulls out all the tricks to outdo the charismatic Brandt. The Federal Chancellor does not stop at damaging his reputation and defaming him - all in order to maintain his power and defeat the supposed communist "enemy".

In April 2009, Colonel Klein takes up his post as commander in Kunduz. The first soldiers move into the camp quarters. Among them are five young men who have so far been denied any field experience. So far, they have only known the mission in Afghanistan as an exercise. Colonel Klein is therefore faced with a difficult task, which turns the management of the camp into a crucial test. At that very moment, the Taliban's spring offensive breaks out against the Germans. The first casualties and deaths cannot be avoided and two tanker trucks are hijacked by the attackers. The war has begun. Months later, the stolen trucks are recovered. Both vehicles are stuck on a sandbank in the river. Klein has to decide whether the discovery poses a danger to his camp.
