A man who serves in the war between the forces of Light and Dark comes into possession of a device that can restore life to Moscow, which was nearly destroyed by an apocalyptic event.

Early 18th century. Cartographer Jonathan Green undertakes a scientific voyage from Europe to the East. Having passed through Transylvania and crossed the Carpathian Mountains, he finds himself in a small village lost in impassible woods. Nothing but chance and heavy fog could bring him to this cursed place. People who live here do not resemble any other people which the traveler saw before that. The villagers, having dug a deep moat to fend themselves from the rest of the world, share a naive belief that they could save themselves from evil, failing to understand that evil has made its nest in their souls and is waiting for an opportunity to gush out upon the world.

Among normal humans live the "Others" possessing various supernatural powers. They are divided up into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others actually roam the night as vampires while a "Night Watch" of light forces, among them Anton, the movie's protagonist, try to control them and limit their outrage

A working man went to the forest garden to plant a turnip, where he met a very lazy and, as it later turned out, foolish bear. The man managed to outwit the beast twice without giving him a single gram of the crop.

An escaped prisoner, breaking the laws of hospitality, kills the dog of a boy whose grandfather gave him shelter. He placed a sharp piece of metal in a piece of meat. The police arrived and shot the dog. The boy grew into a small, pitiful, absurd, side-eyed man, who froze his genital organs while rescuing a dog, unable to have children, which his wife complains about very much. He works as a driver. While transporting a white piano from the collective farm to the club, he turns off the road so as not to run over the sheep, and the car falls into the river. A white puppy follows him everywhere and creepy and funny stories constantly happen. But he lives his dreams, writes poetry, his only friends are dogs - he gets kicked out of work, his wife leaves him. The real trouble comes - war.

Life proceeds peacefully in the family of Anna and Nikolai, although every day the wife meets and sees off the ship on which Ivan, her first love, works. Anna - takes the collective farm cows away from the village “activist” Repekhin, an irresponsible and frivolous type, and hides them in an abandoned loan. The investigation of this case was entrusted to police lieutenant Korzhov.
