The film tells the story of an ordinary guy Anton Kandidov. First he works on agricultural work — transports on boat on Volga watermelons. Noticing how deftly Anton catches and loads watermelons, he is told that he could become a goalkeeper and play football. And he decides to follow the advice. On the way to the glory of the goalkeeper and waiting for his victory and disappointment.

This is a two-in-one flashback film in which the flashback ends up teaching a group of kids a heroic lesson that they take to heart when war comes to their doorstep.

Based on the autobiographical book "Ya -sam" (I-myself) by Vladimir Mayakovsky the leading Russian Futurist poet of the beginning of the 20th century. He was born in 1893, into a Russian Cossack family in the Transcaucasian kingdom of Georgia, then part of Russian Empire. There he spent his childhood and boyhood attending a grammar school in Kutaisi. Mayakovsky moved to Moscow at the age of 14, after his father's death. He became a poet, an artist, an actor, a writer/director and public speaker.

Arkasha Pryakhin, the son of a cook, is accepted by the "ladies' committee" as a free pupil at the gymnasium. Treasury discipline, reigning in this educational institution, methodically kills in students a genuine love of knowledge. Gymnasium students, resisting the soulless school system, invent all sorts of pranks, sometimes very evil. "Friends-comrades" is a Soviet cartoon film shot in 1951 by director Victor Gromov. Three comrades, Nakhimov Chizhov, Suvorov Pyzhov and artisan Ryzhov, get acquainted in the Children's Park with a schoolgirl Zina Zhukova, who imagines herself to be a young dancer-future dancer. Zina haughtily refers to the boys, calling them crooks. But everything changes after watching the children's initiative.
