Marie declares that the picture was wrong--evil could never triumph over truth--and though Muller says he agrees with her, he plots to prove otherwise.

In the film, Breamer’s character, Miriam Holt (“the girl who sees around corners”), proves her psychic powers by locating children who went missing during the war. Her childhood love Clyde Brunton (Conrad Nagel) is unhappily married to a social climber, but Miriam’s ability to commune with the spirits of the dead (“those we love are always with us”) finds a way to resolve the problem.

When Sally McTurk's husband is murdered, her brother Ken Thornton goes into hiding and winds up in a small mountain community, using a phony name. He's taken in by a local family, the Harpers. A mutual attraction soon develops between Thornton and the family's daughter, Dorothy, but a local bully who has designs of his own on Dorothy sets out to have Ken killed.

Page Emlyn travels with his friend Jim Calvert to the Calvert family home. It doesn't turn out well: Calvert's fiancée breaks up with him and he later falls off a cliff to his death. His friend Emlyn was with him but was so drunk he doesn't remember anything that happened that night, and before long Emlyn is accused of pushing his friend off the cliff and tried for the murder.

Dennis O'Neill comes to America from Ireland at the request of his wealthy aunt, who intends to make him heir to the family fortune accrued from a junk business, but Mrs. Bryan objects to the presence of his widowed mother, who reminds her of their humble origins. Claire, niece of Mrs. Bryan, supports Dennis in his determination not to abandon his mother, and he installs Mrs. O'Neill in the nearby apartment of Tim Donohue, a friend from the old country, from whose window she can signal to Dennis. Dennis discovers that Hansen, manager of the junk firm, and his assistant, Richey, a suitor of Claire's, are padding the payroll. He finds that his affections for Claire are reciprocated, but Richey informs her that he is keeping another girl in the Donohue apartment. Dennis produces his mother, takes vengeance on Richey, and wins Claire -- all to the satisfaction of Mrs. Bryan.
